KINDNESS MATTERS – Maryville Lions Still Serve During Pandemic
The Maryville Lions club has started distribution of “Thinking of You” care packages to Blount County Asst Living/Nursing Home Centers consisting of approximately 750 residents. The care package consists of hand sanitizer, hand lotion, pkg of tissues and a microfiber cloth to clean eyeglasses. We also attach a small business card note on the outside of the package. This is a club service project planned earlier in the year and for the last several weeks individual members have been putting the packages together in the safety of their own homes. We had previously talked with the Asst Living/Nursing Home Centers to see if this would be ok to do — not knowing the pandemic was coming! Now the centers are eager to accept the packages to give their residents a little treat – especially since family members are no longer allowed to visit.
To stay safe – Individual members are making deliveries of the boxes of care packages when they do their grocery runs so as to minimize time away from homes – boxes are dropped at the facility main entrance doorway and then the staff take the boxes into the facility and distribute to their residents. We hope we provide a little cheer even for a short time!
